White Oak High School and Middle School Choir Assignments for the weeks of April 27 – May 8

Hello choir!

I hope that you are all doing well. I have one more assignment for you to do.

Please answer the following questions and email the answers to me at [email protected].

1.  What is your favorite song?  ( This would be the song that you like the most.  The one that you like to sing or the one that you like to listen to when you have the opportunity.)

2. Who wrote your favorite song?

3. Do you think that this song could be written for a choir to sing?

4. Other than your favorite song, what song would you like the White Oak Choir to learn and to perform?

I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Mrs. Kessler

Choir Lesson Plans April 13 – 24, 2020 – 6th – 8th Grades

Dear Choir,

I hope you are all doing well!

Here is your assignment for the weeks of April 13 – 24.

The information in these pages are very important in learning how to sing correctly.  You are going to read about how to breathe correctly, how to say vowels, and how to warm up your voice.

I would like for you to carefully read these pages and then I would like for you to choose a few of the exercises to practice.

There are breathing exercises, physical exercises, and singing exercises.

Yes, you can do the singing exercises.  Sing the solfege first and then put in the given words. They all start on Do, except for number 4, which starts on Sol.

After you have practiced some of these exercises for a few days, email me and let me know which ones you liked and which ones helped you the most.

I want to hear from you.  Sing these warm ups every day to help keep your voice in shape, and let me know if you would like me to send you some more warm ups.

The main thing during this time is to Keep Singing!

Take care and let me hear from you!

Mrs. Kessler

7th and 8th Grade Choir Lesson Plans – March 30 – April 10

Hello Choir!!

I am missing you so much and I hope that you are staying well.

During this time of quarantine, I have a project for you to do.  I hope it will be fun and that you will enjoy it.  Maybe, it will be a change from your usual daily routine.

Sometime during the next 2 weeks, I would like for you to video yourself singing a song and email it to me.

The song can be any song that you choose. (of course, you know it has to be school appropriate!)  The song can be as long as you would like, but no shorter than one minute.

You can use Karaoke, live accompaniment, or  sing a cappella.   If you have someone in your family that likes to sing, you can include them in the video.  You can even get your whole family involved if you would like!  This should be a fun activity. I know it will be fun for me, as I will get to hear all of you sing!

A voice can get out of shape quickly if you don’t use it on a daily basis. So, this should help keep your voice as healthy as it was when we left for spring break!

I will not share the videos with anyone.(unless you give me permission.)  I will comment on them and may give you a few tips.

You can also upload your video to the White Oak Shared Drive.

I know some of you can’t wait to get started and some of you are dreading this!  You need to get out of your comfort zone and share your wonderful voice.

Please email me if you have questions.  [email protected]

This project is due on Thursday, April 9, but don’t wait until the last minute!!

Thank you!
